Upgrade MariaDB 5.5 to MariaDB 10.2 on VestaCP Centos 7 Server

Here I will show you how you can upgrade you MariaDB 5.5 to 10.2. VestaCP install MariaDB 5.5 by default.

Before upgrading MariaDB, backup your database for safety.  Let’s get started…

Adding the repository

nano /etc/yum.repos.d/MariaDB.repo

Insert the following texts & save.

# Used to install MariaDB 10 instead of default 5.5
# http://mariadb.org/mariadb/repositories/
[mariadb]
name = MariaDB
baseurl = https://yum.mariadb.org/10.2/centos7-amd64/
gpgkey=https://yum.mariadb.org/RPM-GPG-KEY-MariaDB
gpgcheck=1

Removing MariaDB 5.5

yum remove mariadb mariadb-server

Installing MariaDB 10.2

yum update -y && yum install mariadb mariadb-server -y && service mariadb start

Enabling the Service

systemctl start mariadb
systemctl enable mariadb.service

Verify MariaDB version by running

mysql -v
